weblog 3
Today I interviewed my management professor in an attempt to discover what things a class website needs. We talked in comparison a lot about blackboard. These were some of her points. One thing she mentioned was that it can be a hassle posting something on blackboard and then separately emailing the class. This could be simplified by having the website automatically notify via email everyone in the class. She also believed that the gradebook they use could be simpler and easier to use. Another idea we talked about was having a page for links to websites that could help students with fields related to what they are studying. Finally, she thought it would be nice if all the pages that were not used were just removed. She does, however, like the ability to post documents and powerpoints so this would be something to have on our created website.

Weblog 2
In any class there are many ways the professor can successfully integrate web 2.0 apps to help the students learning process. One really helpful one is that of a gradebook. All students like to have an idea of where they stand in a class at any point in time. At JCU, blackboard is used and is very helpful for many students depending on how well the teacher uses it. It is very helpful when teachers use things like blackboard to post assignments as well as notes. This way students can know when things are due without having to call or email anyone. Teachers can also use this technology to make announcements about class. Finally, there are many teachers who use powerpoint but often move too fast in class. With an app like blackboard teachers can post these notes online so students can catch up.

1st weblog
Personal info:
1. My name is Michael Hulseman, my hometown in Chicago Il, and my primary e-mail is cubfan010@aol.com
2. I prefer to be called Michael
3. Im not going to be a teacher, my major is accounting
4. One thing that is unique about me is that I am the 4th of 13 kids in my family.
Learning Style:
5. For me to share more intellectual conversation and creativity with a class, i prefer a class that is well structured, yet at the same time encourages discussion.
6. I would consider myself a good student who will be active in classes with interesting discussion. Sometimes i can be unprepared for classes because I am forgetful. However, I usually get all my assignments done. When I have a question, the first thing I do for a class is email the teacher. Otherwise I ask the teacher in person when available.
7. I tend to struggle with teachers who are vague with instructions or have a lack of structure in their class. In most well structured classes i have succeeded.
Technology Section:
8. To me the most important technological invention was electricity. This opened to door for millions of other inventions and innovations. At the same time it allowed for life to be much simpler and easier.
9. the internet*, cell phones, computers, cars
10. After a normal school day I usually will spend a good amount of time on the internet, whether its doing homework, emailing people, or facebook. I also might spend some time watching tv or might use my car to drive somewhere.
11. I think that computers are often used inappropriately by people. One serious misuse of this is identity theft. Hackers can use the internet to steal personal information from people that is very important. Theres only so much regulation that can be done.
12. In order for the class to go as best as it can I think that one really important factor is that it is an engaging learning community. To me this means that the class must be structured in a way the encourages input from all students. We should study useful learning technologies like powerpoint and email and we should learn how to use them in a way that is helpful for us and those whom they are teaching. We should avoid pure lecturing. I think in a class about instructional technologies it should be an interactive learning environment.
For Dr. Shutkin:
1. What types of technologies will we learn about in this class?
2. Do students ever struggle with this class?
3. Do we have a final in this class?
